Sororities

The Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the Greek sororities at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The council is composed of two delegates from each sorority chapter along with eight officers responsible for governing across sororities. Panhellenic Council encourages leadership, academics, and community service. Together, Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council sponsor all Greek events that promote brotherhood and sisterhood within the Greek community.

At the 2018 Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) conference, our Panhellenic Council was awarded the Sutherland award. The award recognizes the Panhellenic Council with the highest percentage of achievement in eight programming categories: Academic Achievement, Council Management, Leadership and Educational Development, Membership Recruitment, Philanthropy and Community Service, Public Relations, Risk Reduction and Management, and Self Governance and Judicial Affairs.

Commitment to Academics

As sorority members at Nebraska Wesleyan University, we realize our primary objective is to obtain a quality education. We help each other in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Each chapter creates an atmosphere conducive to high academic performance and challenging members to live up to their highest academic potential. The chapter houses have libraries, quiet study areas, and quiet hours. NWU's sororities and fraternities recognized academic achievement through scholarships and loans. Each individual chapter has its own academic achievement awards and scholarship programs.

Costs

The cost of dues varies from chapter to chapter. The average cost of first-year membership is around $400 per semester. Ask each chapter about financial responsibilities during Panhellenic Recruitment.

Alcohol and drugs

Each organization at Nebraska Wesleyan participates in a risk management program, which sets strict guidelines about the use of alcohol. Since the inception of this program, safety has improved at Greek social functions. All sorority houses are drug and alcohol free.

Fire and Healthy Safety

Greek chapter facilities are required to meet all local fire and health codes and standards. Chapter houses are inspected by the Lincoln Fire Marshal each year to ensure compliance to all codes and standards. Chapters are required to hold fire and evacuation drills at least four times per academic year and test all smoke detectors and emergency lights each month. As of Fall 2017, all Greek chapter houses have functioning sprinkler systems in each room of the facility.
